I tasted it at Vinitaly - sensational!

Kim Brebach

For $1100 a bottle, I should hope so, mate.
:-)
WOuld you like to write a review for my blog?

James Ng

went to buy a bottle in Wanchai (Hong Kong) today and retailer said they had sold out their allocation - sold at HKD$ 9500 each. Apparently rest is in Beijing!

Kim Brebach

That's astonishing, James. Thanks for posting that news. So it looks like an A$1200 price tag up there.

Roger Lim

Hello Mr Kim,
I see that there are many critics of Ingalalla Parawa - I also note as would many that NONE have actually tasted it. How can they comment on the wine without actually trying its taste? Are they worried about the competition?
I understand the wine business down in Aussie has problems due to over supply and low prices. Why do people not comment on high priced cars, $20K handbags, luxury goods? This company seems to be raising the profile and competing with our friends in France who also produce expensive wine (and seem to charge a huge price even in a poor vintage year!!)
Good luck to Ingalalla wines.

Kim Brebach

Your points are very valid, Mr Lim. However, it seems we Aussies will not have a chance to buy this wine at all but I wouldn't pay that much for any wine to be honest.
My blog is about wines to drink and enjoy, not luxury goods, and I admit I poke fun at wines and restaurants that turn the simple pleasure of sharing a meal and wine with friends into some gala performance that costs an armn and a leg. It's not my scene. That's what I like about wine: you can pick and choose.

Francis Chong

Hi from Hong Kong - interesting blog. In regards to Mr Gago's comments about "pedigree" (ie history, status etc) - Mr Gago please tell me how many points in a blind tasting (the only true test of a wines quality) are allocated for pedigree and history?.......
So for all the critics out there, good luck to Simic and this project - it can only lift the profile of Aussie wine. Also why can the French charge top dollar for an "icon" wine in a bad year and still sell it? (PS- I have contacted several merchants here in HK and all say its sold out or they got no allocation).

Kim Brebach

Interesting point you make there, Francis, but Peter Gago would say that wouldn't he?
:-)
btw, HK ran out of Parawa by May 1, see post above from James NG

Roger Wilson-Moore

Tried to buy one in Shanghai - my local wine shop here in the city said its allocation was sold out last week. Would have made a great gift for my Chinese friends.

Kim Brebach

What makes you think it would've made a great gift for your Chinese friends, Roger? This is a genuine question: I don't know many Chinese people - what is the fascination with this wine that came out of obscurity at a first growth Bordeaux price?

Roger Wilson-Moore

Hello Kim - because its unusual, and much harder to find - and of course its Australian so it must be full of flavour - the report on line by Robert Parkers Asian writer (Perotti Brown MW) convinced me!

Alvina Li

Yes I saw that one too. Lisa Perotti Brown is well respected here. With a Parker recommendation like that well.....there goes my chance to get a bottle!

Alvina Li

Well unless the wine will be at Top Wine Show here next month. I saw on the website the winemaker runs the Aussie wine master classes. Maybe I will offer my first born for a case! :-)

Kim Brebach

That's the trouble with Parker: he makes prices go through the roof. Please, Alvina, I'm sure your first-born will give you infinitely more joy than a case of any wine.
:-)

Zhu Xi

I see there are some very good reviews there now Kim. I have heard there are only 300 Masters of Wine in the world and there are now several on their website with some interesting comments.

Kim Brebach

Yes, there sre. Maybe even fewer Masters of Wine than 300. Happy to read their comments if you send me a few links.

Kim Brebach

Many Thanks, Zhu Xi.
Interesting!

Li Xuan

Managed to buy two bottles in Shanghai today - RMB 7900 each - have had one tonight with very influential friends with dinner. Excellent and worth the money. Was a very good wine like a mouton rothschild wine.

Kim Brebach

Li Xuan, the wine must be quite something! I'm glad you thought it was worth the money.
