Its full name is AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm F4.5-5.6 G ED VR
I may have been a bit hard on Nikon in regard to the mixed-bag 1 system, but this last weekend I remembered what we love about Nikon: superb lenses that we ordinary shooters can afford (and great cameras like the D5100).
I happened to have this lens on my D5100 when the cockatoos paid us a visit.Talk about sharp, and true colour rendition on a dull day. Ridiculous value for money. Just click on the images to see a larger file.
They're funny guys - clown around for a bit and then shoot through. They look like they're making love here, but more likely they're picking lice out of each others' feathers.
'Are they talking about me?'
'Just between us'
This is one of the best-kept secrets in lenses. It has no problems resolving all the detail gathered by the D5100's 16mp sensor. It comes with an AF-S motor and VR, and its price is modest. It's also smaller and lighter than other telezooms with an equivalent range. Build quality is typical for Nikon kit lenses, i.e. better than it looks. Thank you, Nikon.
